Annual Christmas Benefit Concerts Sunday December 4, 2022
For the 30th year, the Coles County Barbershop Chorus will present two concerts on Sunday, December 4th…3 PM at Wesley United Methodist Church (2206 4th Street -Charleston) and at 7 PM in the United Christian Church (200 E Lafayette – Mattoon) The 30 man chorus with three quartets and two ensembles will present the FREE one hour program with secular songs….Jingle Bells, Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire etc and spiritual songs such as
Go Tell It On the Mountain, Carol of the Bells, Drummer Boy and O Holy Night. Several area men will join them in singing a medley of favorites … Up on the House Top, Jolly Old St. Nicholas etc.
The CCC was founded more than 50 years ago. In state wide competition they are always finalists and have finished as high as runner up to the much larger choruses in and around the Chicago area. The chorus prides themselves on providing a meaning and active community outreach…singing at Nursing Homes, Churches, Community events and Benefit Concerts. They also provide financial assistance for area high school vocal music programs. Each year, these two concerts raise in the vicinity of $4,000, every penny of which is given to the designated programs. Some of the members are retired and all come from diverse occupations: students, farmers, business men, physicians, lawyers, construction workers, teachers etc. and they form a unified musical fellowship that keeps them coming back. Some of them have been members for more than 40 years….the average is about 20 years.

Back by popular demand, and just in time for Christmas, The Coles County Barbershop Chorus returns to the PCOFA stage. Well-known as one of the best acapella men’s harmony organizations in Illinois, their love of singing bursts joyfully from the stage in technical and artistic perfection. Your ears and hearts will be filled with the musical spirit of Christmas!
